ISADORA MEDICATIONS
Following up on the animalistic debut ‘Beast’, new name ISADORA beckons us further down in her world of basement pop, called so as it was in fact a friend’s underground room where this New Jersey-via-Los Angeles artist first began experimenting with free software tutorials that have since allowed her to create this modulated, dark sound that we can hear on sophomore release ‘Medications’. The opening quarter is all about a minimalist mesh of electronic beats backing ISADORA’s sticky-sweet vocals, which echo the addictive, bouncing chorus “We take one for the money, and two for our heads, and - keep going until we can’t feel our hands, and - trying to get up till we dance with the planets,” her words bounce over the glassy percussion, before eclipsing with the lyrical crux of this song, “I’m ready for just one more dose, yeah.” From here, the track sinks into a muffled intoxication, with the 21-year-old’s R&B vocals swimming just below the surface, before emerging into that slick, self-produced chorus. With just two years of self-taught production skills under her belt, ‘Medications’ is a mighty feat for upcoming urban legend ISADORA. - HT
